There’s something special about the connection we make with people we meet in our lives. In this reflection, I want to share a special memory of Zoohky—a legendary figure from the West End streets of Winnipeg. While Zoohky and I didn’t share a close relationship, his presence left a lasting impression on me, one that continues to influence my life today.
Zoohky was known for his warmth, his smile, and the quiet kindness he brought to his community. A beautiful mural now celebrates his legacy, keeping his spirit alive for those who remember. For me, Zoohky represents more than a fond memory of the past—he’s a symbol of the values that can connect us to each other.
In my office, a photo of Zoohky serves as a reminder. It’s not just a reminder of him, but of the feelings his memory brings to me: joy, resilience, and belonging. These emotions ground me in the importance of community, something I strive to bring into my personal and professional life every day.
What’s most remarkable is how even a brief connection with someone can shape who we are. Zoohky’s kindness reminds me to carry forward that same spirit in my interactions, whether with friends, clients, or strangers. His story reminds me that it’s not the length of time we spend with someone, but the depth of their impact that truly matters.
Zoohky’s legacy is a call to action for all of us—to notice the power of kindness, to build resilience in our communities, and to find ways to spread good cheer others, just as he did.
What memories connect you to your values? I invite you to take a moment and reflect on those individuals who, like Zoohky, have left a lasting impression on your heart.
